The Science Library of the Museum of Independence in Warsaw has a very special character. It collects publications connected with the Polish history with the world history background starting with times when Poland was annexed up to latest history.
The library includes: basic publications, magazines, screenplays of exhibitions, maps and dictionaries, bibliography, guidebooks.
The Library own several independent publications issued without censorship since 1977 documenting e.g. foundation and acting of NSZZ Solidarność - since the strike in 1980 till their operations during the martial law.
The collection concerning Poles living in the East is constantly increasing, mainly publications connected with Lviv (collection Leopolis) and the martyrdom of Poles from the East (Sybirak Collection).
In 2004 the Museum and Library collect publications connected with Krzemieniec (latest Krzemieniecka Collection).
The Library increases also their collection concerning Mazovia.
The collection of the Library of the Museum of Independence include workshops for historians and is an exhibitions it self.
Everyone can take advantage of the Library's collection. The collection cannot be taken away from the Library.
The Library has beside an alphabetical catalogue, also expanded factual catalogues, print outs and magazines with keywords. Each keyword is a search query for books located in the Library.
In 2003 the Library began to prepare digital version of their collection. As one of the first the Library began to digitalize books - later on it will start to transform magazines.
Although this process takes long time and as the collection is very rich, it will last for few years but for future scientist this form of communication will be crucial.
